Cindee’s Soap Box: Puppy Mills

Hello friends!  Today I wanted to use my soap box to talk about puppy mills.  Why puppy mills? Well, I was inspired by my Instagram friend Lil Olive, who was a puppy mill Mommy.  Unfortunately, she has moved on to the rainbow bridge, but her story and her mommy are inspiring.  You can read their story and follow them by visiting @lil olive on Facebook and @lilolive_sissies on Instagram.

So, what is a puppy mill you may ask?  I will do my best to tell you about it nicely.  A puppy mill is a place where humans take advantage of poor doggies by abusing them and keeping them in really bad living conditions, all so that they can make money.

Did you know that many puppy mills keep hundreds of female dogs and force them to get pregnant every time that they are in heat?  These humans keep breeding the Mommies over and over again until they are not able to breed anymore.  Then it is common practice to just murder them.  Can you imagine?  Thank goodness there are some very special people out there who try to rescue these Mommies and take care of them.

Sadly, friends, it doesn’t get much better for the puppies.  Many puppy mill babies suffer from health and socialization problems.  Because these poor puppies live in cramped cages, they tend to end up developing respiratory and hereditary diseases.  Since these furbabies are not properly socialized, they also tend to grow up with behavioral issues.  We all know what happens to so many dogs that have behavioral difficulties. They get tossed aside and forgotten at shelters.

The thing that makes me cry the most is that people keep on buying puppies from pet stores and breeders that get their dogs from puppy mills, all the while three to four million dogs are euthanized in shelters every year.  Please, please my friends, I beg you, adopt do not shop!

If you are interested in learning more about puppy mills please visit the Humane Society webpage or the ASPCA website.  If you want to help, please donate your time or money to an organization that assists these poor doggies.

Thank you so much for letting me share my feelings and opinions with you.  I hope you all have a wonderful day friends!

Love,
